In the last part, parents can see the first three tips to keep your toddler safe in the sun.  To know more useful tips, please continue reading part 2!

Tip 4: Choose right time to go out

The sun is the strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so when you can, time your stroll or outside play with your baby earlier than 10 a.m. or later than 4 p.m. If you go out during these hours, stay in the shade as much as possible or at least break up your sun exposure with pit stops in the shade. Put up an umbrella on the beach or have picnics under a tree or stay under awnings on decks.

Tip 5: Remember the three L’s: Lightweight, Light-colored, Long sleeves

On especially hot days, it might seem counterintuitive to dress your toddler in long sleeves or long pants, but it really helps in protecting his or her skin from the sun. The key is to make sure those long sleeves and pants are lightweight, light-colored materials such as cotton or linen. There is a reason seersucker baby clothing is so popular in the summer!

Tip 6: Wear sunglasses and hats

Whether your toddler is bald or has a full head of hair, a hat is a must. Choose a hat with flaps in the back for neck protection and a brim that's wide enough to shade the face. A brim that protects the ears is better than one that protects only in front. And remember that eye protection is as important as skin protection. Train your toddler to wear sunglasses that offer broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and your kid will learn this is a natural part of being outside.

Tip 7: Remember these sun safety tips even on the cloudy days.

Yes, it’s totally possible to get sunburn even on a partly cloudy or overcast day. Scientists have even observed on partly cloudy days, UV rays can actually be stronger than on a clear day, so it’s especially important to make sure that you and your little one have adequate protection from the sun’s rays when enjoying summer fun outdoors, cloudy or otherwise.
