Are you planning on having a family photoshooting? A photoshooting for babies or children is fun but still challenging in some ways. They are active and usually need to change in different outfits for each session. Choosing suitable clothes for kids as well as accessories for them is aways your major concern before the photoshooting session. What should they wear? How can we match the clothes with the accessories? In this blog, we would like to share with you tips about mix and match clothing for kids to wear on a photo session.

1.Coordinate but do not match

When styling a photo session, a photographer prefers to choose a basic colour palatte as the main colour of the photo. It can help to have one person as “rock star” in the photo, who carries a pattern in their outfit that the rest of the group’s clothings can be pull from, whilst keep other people’s outfits look more simple.

Soft tones are usually the best chosen colours that photographers pick. For instance, a pink pastel girl smocked dress could be coordinated with a geometric smocked boy outfit. If you have a boy and a girl in your family, you could choose such colours for your kids. such colours complement eachother without being matchy-matchy.

2. Accessorize

So let’s start to think outside of the box… That’s right! add some accessories for your kids. Anything ranging from scarves, bonnets, flowers for girls ot ties, tie bows for boys could be a completely fit. However, you should bear in mind that do not let the accessories overwhelm the photos. Children look beautiful in their simple purity. Undoubtedly, mum and dad always want them to be a star in the photo.

Not only scarves, hats or jewelleries can be used as the accessories for kids, a beautiful smocked blanked could also be taken advantage of. The blankets can be a prob that the little girls interact with. This helps loosen the subject up and adds more natural expressions.

3. Layers and textures

One of the ways to add textures to the photo is to think about different clothing materials and accents- tweed, crochet, embroidery details such as smocking, french knot embroideries, knitting. Having different texture and layers of clothings can add another dimesion to the overall image. A girl smocked cardigan could be a perfect layer that mum should consider to dress for girls. These simple details can add more depth for the picture.

In general, one final suggestion is that follow your own vision, creativity and style as well as looking to what fit with your photoshooting theme.
